Adoption

Many parents who have separated and re-partnered desire to have their new partner adopt their child.

Parties are required to obtain the permission of the Family Court of Australia to legally adopt a step-child.

If you do not obtain the permission of the Family Court, then the child's previous parent may still exercise parental responsibility and make decisions for your child.  Any previous parenting orders may also remain in place.
