Jonathon is one of Queensland's leading workplace lawyers with over 12 years experience. An expert in Industrial Relations (IR), workers’ compensation and Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S), he has acted for a number of Australia's largest employers and government departments.

Jonathon has an extensive depth of experience and has managed significant litigation seeking injunctions and damages in response to legal action.

He has particular expertise acting for employers in unfair and unlawful termination, discrimination cases, reviews and appeals of statutory workers’ compensation claims, and defending common law claims for damages by employees and WH&S prosecutions. He has devised strategies in all areas of the commercial spectrum including workplace agreements, workplace surveillance, workplace accidents and is well known for his lecturing and presentations to clients regarding changes in WH&S legislation.

Jonathon appears regularly as an advocate before all the courts including anti-discrimination commissions and tribunals. He is particularly known for his expertise in the oil and gas, construction, labour hire, traffic management and retail industries. Clients include public companies and large to medium private enterprise. Master Builders Association (Associate Member), HIA Legal and IR Committee, Queensland Law Society and Building Disputes Practitioners Society (QLD Committee Member).

Recent Matters

  • Advising corporations on an industrial strategy regarding the implementation of the Fair Work Act 2009;
  • Conducting investigations regarding a senior executive involving allegations of sexual harassment;
  • Defending corporation against a large WorkCover common law claim;  
  • Advising a corporation regarding their employees following the termination of an industrial instrument after a transmission of business;
  • Representing senior executives regarding severance, redundancy and other entitlements upon termination, transfer or redundancy.
